CMSL interim chief Susan Smith is to stand down from the role.

Owner Highlands and Islands Enterprise has launched a search for an 'inspirational' new boss at Cairngorm Mountain.

The vacancy to be filled is for the chief executive of operator Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd.

The role is currently occupied on an interim basis by Susan Smith.

She was seconded from her senior role at HIE to take up the position at the hill in April 2019.

The previous operator Cairngorm Mountain Ltd went into administration in November 2018, a short time after the funicular was closed on safety grounds, with the assets acquired by HIE.

The job specification states the successful candidate will lead CMSL to develop and fulfil Cairngorm's potential in the coming years.

HIE said it is 'seeking an inspirational and experienced chief executive' to lead the design and implementation of high quality business strategies.

The role will involve growing the business sustainably and to the benefit of the local economy and wider tourism and snowsport sector.

CMSL board chairman Peter Mearns said: "At the centre of our vision is establishing a successful and sustainable operating company, offering a diverse and appealing range of activities to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors not only in winter, but every season of the year.

"Since HIE established CMSL in December 2018, the company and its staff have successfully tackled significant challenges and put in a great performance, with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service.

"With engineering works to reinstate the funicular railway currently under way and an end finally in sight to the restrictions made necessary by the pandemic, we can look to the future with renewed confidence and get ready to begin a new and exciting chapter in the story of Cairngorm Mountain....

"Achieving and sustaining this goal will require an exceptional person – someone who not only has the right experience and skills but who also shares our commitment, passion and sense of urgency to drive CMSL forward as a successful business in its own right and a key economic driver for the local area."
