Scottish Water has apologised to customers in Carrbridge who were left without water for most of yesterday.

The utility giant has said that a burst water main was the cause of the disruption to supply to parts of the village.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to customers in Carrbridge who experienced disruption to their water supply over the course of Saturday.

“Our local team has been working hard to respond to a high level of impact on our water network and on customers resulting from the prolonged spell of colder weather.

"We understand this is a difficult time for customers to be without water and are doing all we can to respond and minimise disruption as well as providing support for customers who are particularly vulnerable when their supply is interrupted.

“A team was on site and completed the repair that was needed a short time before 10pm, after which supplies were gradually restored.

"Some customers may have experienced cloudy or discoloured water after their supply returned.

"This is normal and we advise customers to run their cold kitchen tap at half pressure until the water runs clear.”

Scottish Water has highlighted that it runs a Priority Services Register which is its first source of information for customers who are particularly vulnerable if their water supply is interrupted.

The spokesman said: "It’s a relatively quick and easy process to be added to this, either by calling us on 0800 077 8778 or ideally filling in the simple form at https://www.scottishwater.co.uk/help-and-resources/contact-us/additional-support/priority-services-register, which people can also do on behalf of family or neighbours so long as they have the consent of the people concerned to share information with us."

There have been complaints over the length of time it took Scottish Water to respond to the burst water main and the lack of records for the incident despite a number of villagers saying they had reported the lack of supply.

One Carrbridge resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I appreciate that Scottish Water must have had a very difficult time over the whole country yesterday but their communications could have been improved.

"It was worrying to be told that there was nothing on their system about our problem, or any other reports of problems in the area when in reality the engineers must have already been on the ground.

"The Aviemore situation appeared on their Twitter feed at some stage but there was no mention of Carrbridge that we could see on this or on the website page for our area at the time I phoned.

"While we are grateful to have supplies restored, perhaps they could spent a little more time on updating their website which would have kept us informed and saved their time and ours on phone calls."
