A Highland Council candidate standing in Badenoch and Strathspey has received support from party leaders past and present whilst campaigning in the local area.

Declan Gallacher was joined by current Scottish Lib Dem leader, Alex Cole-Hamilton, on Friday afternoon for some door knocking in Aviemore, and then former leader Willie Rennie, met up with the party's council candidate in Kingussie for some canvassing during the early evening.

Mr Gallacher said both Mr Cole-Hamilton and Mr Rennie spent several hours talking with locals and putting their support behind him in his fight to be one of the four candidates of the eight standing to be returned to council chambers.

He said: "It was great to have the support of Alex and Willie while campaigning this week. The reception we received on the doorstep was very favourable, so thank you to everyone we met.

"We are serious about representing residents' needs locally. Badenoch and Strathspey is my home, and I would welcome the opportunity to give back to my home by doing my part to represent those living in the strath.

"If there is an issue that is important to locals then I would like to hear it and would more than welcome folk getting in touch."
