As businesses across the Highlands start to reopen, people are being urged to keep following the rules and guidance to continue suppressing the spread of Covid-19.

A collective of leading business people have come together to encourage consumers to continue to follow the guidelines and play their part in keeping Scotland safe and open.

The campaign, which features Pheona Matovu, Cally Russell, Susan Doherty, Chloe Milligan and Josh Littlejohn among others, emphasises the progress achieved so far and encourages everyone to continue their work as we aim towards a brighter future.

Those involved in the video stress that they have only been able to open thanks to the collective efforts of the people of Scotland.

Jeane Freeman, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, said: “Covid-19 cases in Scotland are currently very low thanks to everyone’s collective efforts. But as we lift the measures that have kept it under control, the risks of transmission increase again. It stands to reason that as we start to interact more, we provide more opportunities for the virus to spread.

“So in everything we do, particularly as we get out and about a bit more, we should be conscious of every possible bridge we might be providing for the virus to spread from one person to another or one household to another.

“Our public health campaign, FACTS, summarises the five key things all of us should remember and abide by if we are to keep this virus at bay. By following these five basic measures, we will be able to drive the virus down further, and live less restricted lives in the weeks and months ahead.”

Josh Littlejohn, Founder of Social Bite, said: “I’m really proud to be involved in this campaign. Over the last 14 weeks Social Bite has distributed over 400,000 emergency food packs to Scotland's most vulnerable people and we have only been able to do that thanks to support from the Scottish Government, the public and the amazing generosity of the Scottish business community.

"It's been a tough time for so many of our friends in the business world and we’ve been looking forward to hospitality and other industries opening.

“However, our businesses can only reopen thanks to the sacrifices people have made and we need to ensure those weren’t for nothing. So please, do come in and visit us at our Social Bite cafes and our Vesta restaurant. But please do so whilst following the social-distancing and face covering guidance. The more we do now, the better the outcome in the long run.”

People in Scotland are being urged to follow the government ‘FACTS’ guidelines to stay safe and protect others as the country moves through different lockdown phases.

The acronym helps people remember to wear face coverings, avoid crowded places, clean hands and surfaces regularly, maintain two-metre physical distancing and self-isolate and book a test if you have coronavirus symptoms.

From July 10, face coverings MUST be worn in shops. This follows face coverings becoming mandatory on all public transport in Scotland from the June 22. Children under five will be exempt from this rule, along with those with certain medical conditions. For everyone else, wearing face coverings in these environments will be mandatory.
