Emergency services have attended the Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Carrbridge after an accident on its rollercoaster.

Pictures and video from the Carrbridge theme park show what appears to be a carriage hanging off the side of the rails for the Runaway Timber Train.

Police have confirmed two children have suffered minor injuries in the incident.

An investigation is being launched.

It is understood that the rollercoaster did not derail or leave the track.

Police Scotland spokesperson said in a statement: "We were called out at 11.30am to a report of a carriage on a rollercoaster suffering mechanical failure.

"Two children suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

"We remain on-scene at the moment and inquiries are continuing."

The Runaway Timber Train just recently returned to service at Landmark after being closed due to Covid restrictions.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.37am on Thursday, August 12 to support a multi-agency response at the Landmark Adventure Park, Carrbridge.

"Operations Control mobilised a number of specialist resources to assist emergency service partners following reports of a rollercoaster derailment.

“Crews left the scene at 12.14pm.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We received a call today at 11.41am to attend an incident in Carrbridge.

"We dispatched three ambulance crews, Basics GP, the Pre-hospital Immediate Care and Trauma team and our special operations team to the scene."

The incident appears to have occurred on one of the lowest points of the rollercoaster. On-lookers reported hearing a loud bang a short time before the accident and the two rear compartments appear to have left the track whilst the rest of the train remains on it.

The second rear compartment seems to have been most affected of the two.

The Runaway Timber Train is one of the most popular attractions at the theme park.

It is a small scale rollercoaster aimed at the family market and there have been no known safety issues since it first came into service.

The Strathy has contacted Landmark adventure park for more details.
