Motorists will face six months of disruption and greatly reduced capacity at the Rose Street multi-storey car park in Inverness.

A programme of maintenance work already underway means that almost a quarter of the parking bays at the city centre building are now out of use.

Deterioration in the concrete surfacing on many of the car park’s floors is behind Highland Council’s decision to roll out the repair work.

A council spokesman said: “Due to our ongoing maintenance programme at the multi-storey car park in Inverness, some 200 bays will be isolated from usage to allow structural repairs to be carried out this year.

“The temporary reduction is from 850 bays to 650 bays while these works are underway.

“There may be more frequent occasions when the car park reaches capacity due to the reduced number of bays available.”

The spokesman confirmed that concrete repair work on multiple floors would “see the number of suspended bays vary throughout the programme, steadily reducing from 200 downwards.”

He added: “At this time, it is forecast that the works will take up to six months.”
