Motorists using the A9 at Drumochter are being warned about roadworks starting on Monday and lasting for the best part of a month.

Road chiefs have said that motorists will benefit from an improved road surface once the work is completed.

The £520,000 investment by Transport Scotland will see improvements to a section of the northbound and southbound A9 Drumochter dualled carriageway.

They have said it will create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

Roadworks will start this Monday on the A9 at the entrance to the Highlands.

The project is set to begin this Monday and is programmed to take up to four weeks to complete.

The improvements will take place between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Thursday and 7am to 12.30pm on Fridays.

No works are programmed for Saturday or Sundays.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative, said: “The £520,000 surfacing improvements will help address the defects on this section of the A9 and will greatly improve the road surface for motorists.

“The traffic management in place is essential to ensure the safety of road workers and road users.

"We’ve taken steps to reduce disruption to motorists as much as possible by avoiding working at busy weekend periods.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank motorists for their patience in advance while we carry out these improvements to the A9.

"We would also encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, there will be a 10mph convoy system and lane closures in place during the project."
