FIFTY-one new Covid-19 cases have been recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4163 to 4214 when the latest daily update was published on Tuesday afternoon.

Thirty-one people were receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night, a figure unchanged from Saturday’s update.

And, of those, nine were being treated in intensive care – this was one higher than yesterday, and was also the highest number of people in intensive care across the health board on any one day since the start of the pandemic.

Across Scotland there were 928 positive tests in the past 24 hours. This represented 6.6 per cent of all tests carried out during that window.

Some 1672 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night. This was down 38 on the previous day, and some 280 lower than the same point last week.

There were 108 people in intensive care units last night – a figure unchanged from yesterday.

Sadly another five deaths were also recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Some 866,823 people have now had their first vaccination jags after a further 27,557 shots were administered on Sunday. This was three times higher than the daily increase recorded on the previous Sunday.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in either NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney, but NHS Eileanan Siar’s cumulative tally rose by a further five, to 219.

On the mainland, NHS Grampian detected 51 new cases – taking its overall total to 12,829.

And there were 49 fresh positive tests across NHS Tayside, which now has a running tally of 12,506.

There have been 186,720 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
