A Highlands MSP has said 'the crisis' at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness underlines the need for a cautious approach to lockdown.

The city hospital has been placed in 'code black' status meaning it is at capacity with no bed available for admissions from A&E.

Highlands and Islands MSP Ariane Burgess said: “The crisis at Raigmore Hospital demonstrates the danger of Boris Johnson’s reckless approach to Covid, and underlines the importance of Scotland following a different path.

“I would urge the Scottish Government to make every resource available to support Raigmore Hospital and NHS Highland through this difficult period.

“I also ask everyone, especially people who visiting the region on holiday, to take every precaution when it comes to limiting the spread of the virus.

“My thanks to all the staff at the hospital who are working hard to provide the best level of care possible in extremely challenging circumstances.”
