Firefighters have been praised for their prompt response in tackling a blaze at the rear of an Aviemore guest house last night.

It is understood that no-one was injured in the incident at the Cairngorm Guest House on Grampian Road.

Witnesses described hearing a loud bang after the blaze took hold in a wood store.

Helena Ekerot, who runs the Ravenscraig Guest House next door to the property, later posted on social media: "Everyone safe and well at Cairngorm Guest House and Ravenscraig Guest House.

"Thanks to everyone who came out to check we were safe and obviously the local fire team doing a fine job in getting it under control."

Today's Remembrance Sunday service was able to go ahead without any issues at the village's memorial which is opposite the Cairngorm Guest House.

The Strathy has contacted the police for more details on the fire.
