After days of speculation Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted that he did attend the "bring your own booze" party in the Downing Street garden.

He has apologised for being at the event in May 2020 and has told MPs was technically within the rules but he should have realised how it would look to the public.

It was attended by around 30 members of staff and was at the same time as as a number of strict coronavirus rules and guidelines were in place – when it was made public Number 10 described it as a workplace meeting.

At the time workers were expected to try to minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the workplace and to reduce the number of people you spend time with in a work setting.

There was nothing in the guidelines to suggest that drinking, socialising or other types of work events were allowed.

Members of the opposition have called for him to resign and the PM is also under pressure from MPs within his own party.

Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) today he said he understood that people were outraged at the thought that Downing Street staff members were not following the rules while members of the public had made huge sacrifices throughout this pandemic.
