A seven seater car with eight passengers in it was stopped by road policing officers on the A9 this week.

Highlands and Islands Road Policing Officers stopped the car near Aviemore on August 21, due to their manner of driving.

The seven seat vehicle was found to have eight passengers including four children between the ages four months and 12. None of the children were appropriately restrained.

Two of the children were sharing a seatbelt and two did not have the correct child seat for their age, weight and height.

A report is to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Constable Elaine Nicolson, Road Policing, Dingwall said: “In a collision, children are much more vulnerable than adults, therefore car child safety is crucial to help minimise injuries and save lives.

“It’s a serious offence not to use the correct car seat. When children are not properly restrained in an appropriate car seat, even on the shortest of journeys, the impact can be devastating.”
