Police Scotland issue appeal after a crash on the A939 Grantown-Nairn road left a motorcyclist with ‘serious injuries’
Road Policing officers are appealing for information following a serious crash on the A939 near Grantown-on-Spey on Saturday afternoon involving a car and a motorbike with the rider left in a “serious condition”.
The crash happened around 4.05pm on the A939 Grantown-on-Spey to Nairn road at the junction with the A940 at Loch Allan and involved a red Vauxhall Corsa and a red and black Ducati Multistrada motorbike.
Emergency services attended the scene and the 49-year-old male rider of the motorbike was taken to Raigmore Hospital but was later transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment for what are described as “serious injuries”.
The male driver of the car did not require hospital treatment and the road was closed for just under 10 hours to allow for investigations to be carried out and re-opened around 10.15pm.
There was a spate of incidents over the weekend on Highlands roads including the A9 being closed near Dornoch on Friday for three hours but the number of vehicles were not revealed.
Then on Friday evening a serious crash between Tomatin and Aviemore involving a car, a bus and a lorry saw one woman airlifted to Aberdeen in a serious condition and others treated in Raigmore, closing the road for around seven hours.
On Saturday afternoon there was another crash south of the Cromarty bridge, also on the A9 not far from the Culbokie turn-off and that was followed by reports of a car on fire closing the southbound carriageway out of Inverness.
Regarding the incident near Grantown, Sergeant David Miller said: “Our enquiries are ongoing, and I am appealing for anyone who has any information which could assist to contact us.
“I would particularly appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken to officers or who has dash cam footage which may assist to get in touch.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 2525 of 27 July, 2024.
