Police arrest HGV driver on A95 at Drumuillie near Boat of Garten over the poor state of his vehicle

Officers from Highland and Islands Road Policing have been checking HGVs for roadworthiness and compliance with drivers' hours legislation.

They posted images online of the condition of one vehicle which was stopped while being driven by a 44-year-old Romanian national.

He was arrested on the A95 at Drumuillie for driving his vehicle in such a dangerous condition that it posed a significant risk to himself and other road users.

A report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Road Policing Inspector Donnie Mackinnon said: "Under Operation Cedar, we are committed to keeping people safe on our roads and this was an example of someone who displayed an utter disregard for road safety.

"Thankfully nobody was injured and the driver was left in no doubt about the consequences of his poor decision making."
