The Highlands' three-day run without freshly-confirmed Covid-19 cases has ended after an additional person tested positive for the virus.

There have now been 336 positive tests for Covid-19 in the NHS Highland area since the pandemic began.

But there was better news in the region's hospitals, which saw the number of people being treated for the coronavirus fall from 10 to eight.

Nationally, there were only 29 positive tests recorded on the bank holiday Monday, with the number of confirmed cases now standing at 15,185. The true overall figure is believed to be much higher, however, due to underestimates of the case numbers caused by people with no symptoms or those who were not tested.

Eighteen further fatalities have been recorded across Scotland, to take the overall death toll among those who gave positive tests to 2291.

But the number of confirmed Covid-19 hospital patient numbers fell from 847 to 833 across Scotland. Those who had tested positive who were in intensive care last night also dropped by one to 28.

Elsewhere in the north, health boards in Orkney, Shetland and Eileanan Siar continued their long run of days without any fresh positive tests.

NHS Grampian, meanwhile, recorded a further five confirmed cases to take its official total to 1250. But, as with the Highlands, it saw Covid-19 hospital patient numbers fall – down from 71 to 66.

NHS Tayside also reported a slight drop in hospital cases (down one to 13) - and it also recorded no new positive tests for the virus. It has had 659 positive tests since the pandemic began.
