ONE new case of Covid-19 was recorded across the NHS Highland health board region in the past 24 hours.

The area’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 5204 to 5205 when the latest daily figures were published on Tuesday.

Across Scotland, there were 318 newly-confirmed Covid infections in the past day. This represented two per cent of all tests carried out over that period.

Ninety-seven people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – up three from yesterday.

Of those, six were in intensive care. This was a rise of two from Monday’s update.

Sadly, two more deaths have been recorded among people who previously tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were once again no fresh positive tests in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Eleven fresh cases were detected in the NHS Grampian region, for a rolling total of 15,406.

And a dozen new infections were registered in NHS Tayside, which now has an overall tally of 14,975.

Some 232,661 positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across Scotland since the global pandemic first began.

Almost 3.17 million people have now received their first vaccination jag in Scotland. And more than 1.88 million have had their second.
