There were celebrations in Strathspey at the news that one of its own was in line for a major global award for her work as a mindset mentor.
As the Strathy reported in January, Claire MacGillivray (34), now living in Kent, was raised at Raebreck, Boat of Garten and educated at Deshar Primary School and Grantown Grammar School.
She is leading a campaign to ease schoolchildren into their working day by means of five minutes’ meditation. She asks: “What better way for a child to start their day at school than with a five-minute mediation?”
Earlier this week she was named as one of the finalists in the Inspirational Achiever of the Year category of Pitman Training’s SuperAchievers awards.
The shortlist was compiled only after hundreds of nominations from across the globe were submitted.
Claire, from Staplehurst, was “delighted” to hear of her selection just 12 months on from founding The Mindset Mum after a tough personal period helped her rethink her purpose.
The UK’s leading independent training provider, Pitman Training launched the SuperAchievers Awards to show anything is possible and to help reward people committed to driving their careers forward in a bid to inspire more of the British workforce to strive for more.
The ‘Inspirational Achi-ever of the Year’ award is for someone who has dedicated themselves to achieve, be that personally or professionally.
Five years ago, Claire’s partner, Trevor, had a life-changing accident. He was left with a brain injury and had to learn to walk again.
Instantly, Claire went from being a stay-at-home-mum to having to care for her partner, helping to cut up his food, wash him and support him in everything he needed to do.
She explained: “I became a carer overnight, with two young kids, no career, no income...”
Having meditated for several years, a chance conversation with a friend brought about the idea for The Mindset Mum.
Now she is championing meditation for children, working with parents to encourage them to embrace meditation and the benefits it brings.
