Kingussie’s railway crossing has been closed for the weekend for vital flood prevention works.

The weather has battered the tracks in recent months and flooding has frequently occurred at the strategic point of the Highland main line.

Dredging of the River Gynack is regularly carried out in an effort to ease the pressure but floods remain a threat to the underlying ground.

Network Rail explailned that Ruthven Road is closed to allow the work team to carry out repairs to the road surface and drainage channels at the level crossing.

A spokesperson described the project as: “Continuous closure from 21/03/2025 21:00 to 24/03/2025 06:00.”

The road is a popular route to Kingussie’s most famous landmark at Ruthven Barracks but access is still available from the other, if longer, direction via Kincraig bridge and the B970.
