NHS Highland area records 28 new Covid cases

TWENTY-eight positive tests for Covid-19 were recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 4334 to 4362 when the latest daily update was published on Saturday afternoon.

Across Scotland there were 908 fresh positive tests for Covid-19, representing 4.9 per cent of all tests carried out in the past 24 hours.

Scotland’s hospitals were treating 1449 people for the virus last night – 23 fewer than the same point the previous day. The number of Covid patients in intensive care dropped by five to 110.

Forty-five further deaths of people who had tested positive in the past 28 days were also registered.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Grampian recorded 57 new cases of Covid-19.

In the islands, both Orkney and the Western Isles' NHS boards registered a single new case, while they was no increase in Shetland.

Scotland has now recorded 190,913 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

A further 59,820 people received a Covid vaccination yesterday, taking the overall tally in Scotland to 1,173,445 people who have received the first dose and 14,009 who have received their second dose.
