A care home battling a mass outbreak of the Covid-19 virus has reported another rise in the numbers of residents and staff affected.

NHS Highland was yesterday notified of 35 confirmed cases in residents and 32 cases in staff at Meallmore Lodge Care Home, seven miles south of Inverness.

That is an increase of 11 people testing positive with the virus since the day before.

The condition of those affected is not known.

Meallmore Lodge offers various types of residential, assisted living, respite and short stay care for up to 94 adults in rural Victorian buildings and modern extensions near Moy.

There are residents from the strath living at the home at times.

NHS Highland’s health protection team (HPT) has been working with health and social care colleagues, local community nursing teams and local GPs in an attempt to prevent a spread of the virus , both within the care home and the community.

A spokeswoman from Meallmore Lodge admitted it remained “a very worrying situation” for families of residents and staff.

She said: “We would like to reassure people that all Meallmore Lodge residents and staff were vaccinated with their first dose in January.

"With a combination of our own team supported by our trusted local agencies, we continue to maintain normal levels of cover across the home to ensure the wellbeing, comfort and safety of our residents.

"We have robust infection control practices in place and we are also working extremely closely with Health Protection Scotland to ensure that everyone at Meallmore Lodge receives the best possible advice and care.”
