NHS Highland patients will now be able to book appointments on a Saturday as part of a new pilot scheme.

The trial service will run for six weeks as a test project for the health board.

Normally appointments can only be made Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

NHS Highland said it will have additional capacity between 8am and noon on the Saturday to make it a six-day operation from August 6.

Katherine Sutton, chief officer for acute services at NHS Highland, said: “We’re trialling the Saturday date to see if this helps those contacting us about their appointments. Should it be successful we will look to make this move permanent.

“We hope adding a Saturday service will give patients more accessibility in how they can contact us.”

The way in which patients access the service will not be changing, the health board said.

Those awaiting an appointment will be sent a letter asking them to phone the patient booking team via the number on the letter to arrange the best suitable time.
