NHS Highland health board region reports 71 new cases of coronavirus; increase came as 1567 fresh Covid-19 infections were detected across Scotland over the past day

SEVENTY-one fresh positive tests for the coronavirus have been recorded across NHS Highland in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 9830 to 9901 where Public Health Scotland released the country’s latest daily figures on Monday.

Sixteen people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals last night.

There were 1567 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 9.6 per cent of all those people tested during that period.

Some 337 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, with 39 of those in intensive care.

No further deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, although Public Health Scotland cautions that most registry offices are shut at weekends.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new infections overnight in NHS Orkney, while NHS Shetland and NHS Eileanan Siar each registered one fresh positive test – to take their running totals to 402 and 474 respectively.

NHS Grampian’s overall total since the start of the pandemic rose by 97, to 24,227.

And there were 74 new cases in NHS Tayside – taking its running tally to 27,650.

There have now been 365,427 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic first began.

Nearly 4.06 million Scots have now received their first Covid vaccination jag, while almost 3.47 million have had their second.
