Aladdin’s late arrival at Newtonmore was well worth waiting for
Newtonmore and Badenoch Drama Group could really have started something.
Putting on your Christmas Panto in February might well catch on - after all, who isn’t too busy to go along to a show in the middle of the Christmas work-up, and who really wants to sit in a public hall with wet feet after trudging through the snow, sleet and ice?
“It worked out really well from what, after all, was pretty unfortunate circumstances” said secretary Julie Stewart after the weekend’s stunning success of three wonderful shows at Newtonmore Village Hall.
Problems with lighting rig and entertainments licence didn ot seem the perfect omen for the group’s latest production but as Julie told the Strathy: “We have such an amazing team of people that the thing to do was just re-schedule and prepare for a later season.
“The cast had me chuckling from side stage every single show with their spot on performances.
“ Then there was Reuben fearlessly playing the brave young Aladdin - his first lead role.
“They were all true stars and we want to acknowledge all our backstage team who pulled everything together, such talented artists creating the costumes, props and backdrops. What an absolute buzz!”
Special credit from the audience must go to director Catherine Vis-Christie, who doubles as chairperson of the group to ensure that a fantastic heritage goes from strength to strength.
