Aviemore’s new look war memorial site is to be unveiled tomorrow.

Plans by the Aviemore and Rothiemurchus Royal British Legion to refurbish the area surrounding the monument won £24,504 in funding.

The money has been used to carry out groundworks, create new steps from the Grampian Road path to the tribute, add wooden planters, lay new paving with a poppy sculpture on order, instal a new memorial poppy wreath stand and create a power supply.

The legion’s application was one of seven projects in the strath to share in a cash injection of £111,724 from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund to help support the local construction sector during the Covid downturn.

President Geoff Gaff said that everyone was welcome to attend the service which starts at 11am. Family members of some of the Fallen named on the memorial will be in attendance.

Mr Gaff said the works will also make wheelchair access easier.
