A newly opened boutique B&B in Kingussie has been awarded a five-star quality assurance rating by VisitScotland.

The Viewmount opened its doors at the start of the year following extensive refurbishment by new owner Esther Botha.

Formerly a youth hostel, Esther has transformed the building dating back to the 1870s into luxury accommodation which guarantees ultimate comfort and relaxation.

The five-star grading awarded by VisitScotland follows a visit in May.

The assessor was impressed by The Viewmount’s high standard of accommodation, the quality of furnishings, cleanliness, and the extra touches such as toiletries provided from Essence of Harris and Scottish Fine Soaps.

A special mention was also made to the 'wow factor' of the wine cellar behind a glass door in the lounge.

The quality of local produce used for breakfasts as well as dinner upon request was praised.

Ms Botha said: “I am overjoyed that The Viewmount has been awarded five stars by VisitScotland. It has been my dream to transform this beautiful building into a luxury boutique B&B and to gain this recognition from VisitScotland is the cherry on top.

“I have recently begun offering afternoon teas and special wine and whisky tasting events. I hope that these extras, alongside a luxurious stay in this beautiful building, will add to lots of happy experiences for guests for years to come.”

Chris Taylor, VisitScotland Regional Leadership Director, said: “It is fantastic to hear that The Viewmount has achieved a five star B&B Quality Assurance award at its very first grading visit.

"I would like to congratulate Esther for the hard work she has put into achieving this accolade which increases the quality accommodation offering available to visitors in Kingussie.

“The impacts of Covid-19 have led to visitors looking for extra reassurance, with an emphasis on providing a safe, clean and welcoming experience.

"We have been able to adapt our approach to offering specialist support to businesses throughout the pandemic and we look forward to being able to resume our in-person visits later this year."
