The new Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital is expected to be full operational by this Autumn, NHS Highland chiefs have said.

Work is continuing through-out the second Covid lockdown on the £15m development at Dalfaber in Aviemore.

An NHS Highland spokesman said: “Construction is ongoing with an expected completion date of May 31.

“We are currently working on the detail of the migration plan to move services into the new building in a phased manner so there is no formal go-live date as yet.

“However we expect all services to be moved in and fully operational by end of September 2021.”

Services will be transferred from Ian Charles Hospital in Grantown and Kingussie’s St Vincent’s Hospital which will be closing their doors.

The new facilities will include:

* 24 inpatient beds;

* three minor injuries/out-of-hours treatment rooms;

* x-ray facilities;

* a new ambulance base;

* outpatient department with six consulting/clinic rooms; a group therapy room; physiotherapy gym; podiatry and dental rooms; and

* allied health professional bases for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry; speech and language and dietetics.

A new Aviemore Medical Practice will also be created in the new premises providing 12 consultation/treatment rooms.
