Local trades across the Highlands will be showcased in a new interior design TV series.

Actress turned interior designer Erica Morrison, originally from Skye, will travel around the Highlands and Islands for Mantra TV’s debut production Rùm Gu Rùm Le Erica (Room To Room With Erica), which will be aired on BBC Alba from Wednesday this week.

Filmed across the Highlands and Islands, the show shines a light on the craftspeople of the region as Ms Morrison works wonders with old spaces.

From Skye to Uist and the Moray Firth to Ullapool, she uses local trades and creators to revamp buildings of all shapes and sizes with class and elegance.

Summarising the series and her own style, Ms Morrison said: “I’ve worked as an actor on various dramas and in different capacities in the arts, but interior design has always been my passion.

“In 2017 I got the opportunity to refurbish a flat in Edinburgh. That set me on a new path and now I travel throughout the Highlands & Islands, giving people’s rooms and houses an elegant makeover.

“I don’t follow trends as such. There’s a lot of that on Instagram, lots of trendy people with lovely styles, which I like.

“I look at them and admire them, but trends go out of fashion and when I’m refurbishing a house or a room I try to make it timeless.

“For myself, when I’m staying somewhere I want it to look cosy. I want it to look stylish, too, but comfortable and cosy suits me.”

Ms Morrison now runs her own business in Inverness.

The Rùm Gu Rùm series features everything from houses and flats to hotels, B&Bs and even churches as we get an insight into Ms Morrison’s world.

While each 30-minute episode has a main project and shines a spotlight on Highland arts and crafts, she also provides viewers with design tips to zhuzh up their homes.

The aim of the show is to demonstrate DIY people can actually use, but also guiding the more ambitious amateur decorators through recycling and upcycling old furniture and how to find gems at auction and architectural salvage.

The building was bought to continue its purpose as a B&B to welcome guests, but also for use as a family home.

Erica delivers on both to create a stunning space full of her favourite design tips and homely finishing touches.

Rùm Gu Rùm Le Erica (Room To Room With Erica) begins on BBC ALBA on Wednesday at 8.30pm. Each programme will also be available to watch on the BBC iPlayer for 30 days afterwards.
