A Badenoch watchdog has said it is appalled by nails being sprinkled across the entrance of a popular car park on its patch in what appears to be a deliberate act of vandalism.

A warning was posted online earlier this week for motorists using Ben Alder car park on the outskirts of Dalwhinnie. It is a popular spot for those venturing to the remote peak and surrounding hills.

The post stated: "Take care if you are parking up at Dalwhinnie in the walkers car park for Ben Alder, etcetera. Some anti-tourist idiot has been sprinkling nails across the entrance.

"These are strong inch long clout nails which could ruin a tyre.

"We picked up about 30 of them but there may be more of them."

Lyn Haggarty, Dalwhinnie Community Council secretary, said they had been alerted to the incident.

She commented: "It is with regret that this matter has been brought to our attention.

"This is a disgraceful situation and a very careless and stupid thing to do.

"It saddens me to think that whoever did this believes it's acceptable behaviour.

"This is certainly not the impression the residents of Dalwhinnie want to promote and it could have a detrimental effect on the reputation of our village and our local businesses.

"At this time we are not aware of who carried out this appalling act."
