A BEAR Scotland spokeswoman said: "The essential maintenance will involve upgrading the existing bridge parapets to ensure the bridge continues to function safely for years to come.

"The project is set to begin on Sunday (June 16) and is programmed to take four weeks to complete.

"To minimise the overall duration of the project, the improvements will also take place during weekends.

The project is programmed to take place in two phases.

The first phase will begin on Sunday and there will be traffic lights in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night.

All traffic management will be removed during the daytime, however, a 40mph speed restriction will remain in place.

Phase two will involve temporary traffic lights in place 24-hours a day for safety while teams continue work on the parapets.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “These essential maintenance works will help ensure Bridge of Avon remains in a safe working condition for years to come.

“The traffic management that we have programmed is essential to ensure the safety of our work force as well as road users.

"We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible, including carrying out phase one overnight.

"Our teams will also be working over the weekends to ensure the project can be completed in the shortest available timescale.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential works on Bridge of Avon."
