Traffic was stopped and shops closed today (July 22) in Kingussie High Street after a chunk of harling fell 30ft from a chimney stack.

Police and firefighters were soon on the scene after the alarm shortly after 2pm, where they discovered that no-one had been hurt but the chunk had reportedly made "quite a dent" in what had been sitting directly below.

A new Ford Ranger pick-up estimated to be worth some £30,000 or more had just been parked on the spot outside the Co-op and Boots Chemist.

A cordon went around the pavement in the direct area of the fall and police and firefighters guided the busy afternoon traffic around the area.

One firefighter told the Strathy: "It's incredibly fortunate nobody was hurt. It's directly over the pavement.

"We would go up and check the rest of the stack ourselves but we were ordered to wait for a high-reach platform from Inverness."
