NHS Highland area detects nine new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus for second day

NINE new cases of the coronavirus were recorded across the whole of NHS Highland in the past 24 hours.

The region's cumulative total rose to 1224 when the latest daily update was published.

Across Scotland there were 1261 new positive tests for Covid-19 in the past day.

The number of people receiving treatment in hospital for the virus dropped slightly – down four to 1235.

And there were 93 people in intensive care – a fall of nine since yesterday.

But sadly there were 64 further deaths reported among people who previously tested positive for the virus.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland there no new cases in NHS Shetland or NHS Eileanan Siar. NHS Orkney recorded one new case, to take its total to 71.

NHS Grampian detected 51 new infections, for a cumulative total of 3706.

And NHS Tayside's overall tally rose by 72 to 4737.

There have now been more than 76,448 cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
