The Met Office has confirmed today as the hottest day of the year so far with Kinloss recording 24.6C, the Met Office said.

The warm temperatures makes this the warmest day of the year so far surpassing the previous high for 2021, which was set on March 30 at Kew Gardens in southwest London when the temperature hit 24.5C.

The Met Office also cautioned that levels of harmful UV light will continue to be very high over the coming days, and advise people to wear plenty of sunscreen.

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to climb to 27C before cooler air moves in.

This evening and tonight after a fine end to the day, most areas will have a dry night with clear periods.

Cloud over the North Sea coastal areas, mainly over eastern Scotland, will spread back westwards but Tuesday will see another warm, dry day with plenty of sunshine for most though it will be cloudier in parts of the east at first.
