Kingussie Bowling Club is now the owner of its green and historic clubhouse.

Kingussie Bowling Club has hit the jack-pot and is set to be the proud owner of its own home.

The club has confirmed the impending purchase of the land and surrounding area of the clubhouse and its green for £20,000.

Confirmation of the deal has been made possible with 100 per cent funding from SSE Hydro Fund to buy the site situated on Spey Street - just over the road from the High Life Highland’s Badenoch Centre.

The bowling club has always leased the bowling green from Dochfour Estate but last year the group was offered a one-off opportunity to buy the land rather than continue to lease the site.

Bowlers jumped at the opportunity and immediately went about applying for funding.

The club is the oldest sports club in Kingussie and is approaching its 150 year celebrations as it was founded in 1877.

The exact area measures 70 metres by 36 metres.

A club spokesman said: “The club will announce when the legal administration is complete and the land formally belongs to Kingussie Bowling Club.

“Once in ownership of the land, the club will have the chance to look at the possibilities of developing the site.”
