The three-day performance spectacle, which runs from next Monday to Wednesday, gives youngsters the chance to perform at a professional venue, and will see the pupils compete on the Eden Court stage as they bid to be crowned the regional winners.
Previous years have seen teams wow audiences with performances revolving around everything from the Day of the Dead festival to the life of a ballet dancer.
Since its creation in Australia 30 years ago Rock Challenge has spread to more than 120 locations around the world – with more than one million participants globally.
It first came to the UK in 1996, when Hampshire Constabulary launched the first event to help young people enjoy school and live pro-active and positive lifestyles free of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
And such was its success that it rapidly spread across the UK. A junior version, J Rock, was also launched to cater to youngsters aged seven to 11 years.
Assistant event manager for the UK Rock Challenge, Charlotte Payne said: “The ethos of supporting other teams and making healthy and positive choices which is encouraged by Rock Challenge is always so well embraced by everyone who takes part.
“It is great to see the teams encouraging one another during the day and congratulating each other on their performances, and is one of my favourite things about Rock Challenge and J Rock!”
The teams from Kingussie High School and Grantown Grammar School will both be performing on the Tuesday.
