Kate Forbes will hold a ‘virtual town hall meeting’ next week so that residents of Badenoch have the chance to raise local issues with her directly ahead of the Holyrood election.

Before the pandemic, Ms Forbes would’ve been travelling to most villages in the vast Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency and speaking with Highlanders on their doorsteps, but that has not been possible due to Covid restrictions.

Instead, the SNP candidate for the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch seat is holding five virtual town hall meetings as Facebook live events where the public can ask questions relating to their home area.

The Badenoch meeting is next Thursday (April 15) at 7pm, with more details on Kate Forbes’ Facebook page.

Ms Forbes, SNP candidate for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said: “Normally I would be clocking up hundreds of miles in the short campaign period and going door to door in pretty much all of the villages across the constituency.

“With the pandemic, that’s not possible, but I am still really keen to hear from constituents – so this is the next best thing in the circumstances.

“I’m doing five separate events to make the discussions as local as possible.

"Though there are some broad issues affecting everyone, not least economic recovery from the pandemic, because the constituency is so vast some issues are only relevant to certain parts.

“I know there is a lot of concern around the future of Cairngorm Mountain, plans for new commercial developments being brought forward in Badenoch and Strathspey, as well as restrictions for tourism businesses coming out of lockdown, and I’ll be happy to tackle these and many more issues on the night.

“Before Covid struck, I made a point of holding regular surgeries in pretty much every village in the constituency, because I believe I must listen to and also be held accountable by local people.

“I see the virtual town hall meeting next week as an extension of that.”
