Strathspey Thistle hope that new boss Charlie Brown’s extensive contacts in the game will help the Grantown club to continue to progress.

The Forres Mechanics club legend was appointed as the Jags’ new manager a week ago.

Brown was a prolific striker for Cans during his playing career, as well as a spell at Buckie Thistle.

He had been working as a first team coach at Forres under current boss Charlie Rowley before stepping up to the hot seat himself for the first time.

Brown replaces Gordon Nicolson, who quit as boss at Jags last month – after a successful time at the helm – because of new coaching commitments with Inverness Caley’s youth set-up as well as work demands.

Jags chairman Donly McLeod is delighted with the new arrival who was up against several other candidates for the top job.

He said: “We are really pleased to get someone of Charlie’s experience in to take over from Gordon. It has been a wait for us.

“He has been number two at Forres for a long time and he was technically a great player and scored a lot of goals as centre-forward. He was also involved in the coaching when they won the league in 2011/12.”

Mr McLeod said: “Charlie has a lot of contacts in the game in the North so hopefully he will be able to bring in two or three players to add to our squad.

"We need to get a couple in, especially with a bit more experience.

"It is a young team that we have.”
