Strathspey has steamed into the new season of heritage railway travel with a brilliantly successful weekend’s travel.

At the Strathspey Railway general manager Gordon Kirk told the Strathy: “I am delighted to say that our first weekend of the season was a big success.”

The event featured a rare double header with the company’s Ivatt locos, 46512 and the Carmyle Pilot46464, celebrating 200 years of railways.

“We attracted over 1000 passengers who enjoyed a taste of bygone days steaming through the beautiful Cairngorms countryside.

“Many also feasted on our famous afternoon steam teas or light lunches with the extra bonus of being hauled by two Ivatt locomotives.”

The company’s heritage steam trains are now set to run all the way through to November.

“Many more enthusiastic photographers recorded the event.

“It was more than double the expected numbers and showed the demand for the delight and enjoyment people can get from our heritage railway experiences.”

Over the three day special, passengers chose between standard and first-class options and the historic observation carriage was especially in demand.
