A historic wooden bridge crossing the Spey has reopened to traffic today after being closed for more than a week for repairs after a car crashed into it.

Broomhill Bridge just north of Nethy Bridge was damaged when a Renault Clio struck one of the stone pillar at the south end of the crossing on August 11.

The driver was not injured.

The collision dislodged masonry and left the bridge in an unsafe condition for vehicles. It had remained open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Brromhill Bridge has now reopened.

A Highland Council spokeswoman confirmed: "The repairs are now complete and the bridge has reopened."

Meanwhile, members of the council’s Badenoch and Strathspey area committee have noted works undertaken locally on roads and bridges during the 2018/19 financial year were done with a budget available of £572,248.

The inspections included 10 bridges of more than 20 metres at Garva, Sherramore, Spey Dam, Balnaan, Dulnain, Straan, Nethy, Spey, Cromdale and Old Spey.
