‘Your hall needs YOU!’ says Newtonmore management team wanting change
It is going to be all change in the management of Newtonmore Village Hall, and the search for new blood to take on the management has begun.
At a public meeting earlier this month, it was announced that the current directors of the hall will stand down at the next annual general meeting.
That will be held in April or May once the accounts for the year to end January 2025 have been prepared.
At the recent meeting, current chair Barbara Cross explained that there were many challenges facing the hall in the immediate future.
Karen Derrick from VABS - Voluntary Action in Badenoch and Strathspey - said that the Newtonmore Hall was not unique in that respect, especially with regard to heating issues and ever-increasing costs.
The immediate pressures for Newtonmore Village Hall include getting an electrical upgrade, better stage lighting and finding the best solution to provide adequate and appropriate heating which won’t incur huge annual costs.
“It is hoped that members of the community will come forward to volunteer to become directors at the AGM, especially if they think they have some skills which would be useful in revitalising the hall and securing its future,” said the chair.
“VABS are assisting the hall directors to manage the transition and all are keen that residents and organisations that regularly use the building are aware of the challenges being faced and the opportunities to improve this much-loved community asset.
“If you live in Newtonmore, please come along.”
The meeting is set for Monday, February 10 at 7pm in Newtonmore Village Hall’s Lesser Hall.
