ELEVEN fresh coronavirus infections were detected across the whole NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region's cumulative number of cases increased to 1288 when the latest daily update was published this afternoon.

The new figures also revealed that 717 positive tests for Covid-19 were reported across the whole of Scotland in the past day.

Some 1227 people were receiving treatment in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed coronavirus. This was down 14 on the previous day.

And the number of people in intensive care also dropped slightly, falling two to 98.

Sadly, however, a further six people who have tested positive for the virus have died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there was one new case in NHS Shetland (which rose to 71), while NHS Eileanan Siar and NHS Orkney's cumulative totals remained unchanged.

NHS Grampian's total rose to 3970 – up 33 since yesterday.

And NHS Tayside's cumulative tally rose by 40 to 5059.

Scotland has now reported 82,011 confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
