Organisers say they are “deeply disappointed” to have to cancel the event this summer, which drew more than 10,000 people in 2019.

Highland Pride 2021 has been cancelled with organisers confirming there is no way Coronavirus restrictions would allow for a large gathering of people this summer.

The event, which was due to take place in June during the annual Pride month, will not be going ahead following discussions with event stakeholders.

Organisers have said that they are still working on plans to celebrate Pride month across the Highlands, and further information will be revealed soon.

Jessica Taylor, Highland Pride chairwoman, said: “We are deeply disappointed to cancel Summer Pride 2021, particularly as we know how important representation and visibility of our LGBTQ+ community continues to be in the Highlands.

"However, there are still too many uncertainties about what Scottish Government restrictions will be in place in June, particularly for large-scale events. We don’t want to disappoint our community by having to restrict numbers or cancel altogether. We still have plans to celebrate Pride month across the Highlands and we’ll let our community know more as soon as we can.”

Highland Pride, a Scottish registered charity, aims to preserve and protect the mental and physical health, and social welfare of LGBTQ+ people in the Highlands. They also aim to promote fair and equal treatment for LGBTQ+ people by challenging the stigma and discrimination experienced by

them at both community and personal level.
