Highland Main Line train passengers are being warned to expect possible disruption after reports of a defect at Culloden closed a track.

The northbound line was closed shortly after 12.30pm until engineers could arrive to inspect the track.

A spokesperson for Network Rail Scotland said: "We’re dealing with a report of a possible track defect at Culloden, south of Inverness on the Highland Main Line.

"Until engineers arrive on site and inspect the track, we’ve closed the northbound line. We’ll share more info soon."

Online journey checkers were warning that the 10.32am Edinburgh to Inverness service would be delayed at Kingussie while the inspection takes place.

ScotRail warned that services on the main line could be "cancelled, delayed or revised" and urged people to keep up to date with the latest information at www.scotrail.co.uk.
