Highland councillor warns part of Badenoch and Strathspey’s busiest local road is ‘crumbling’
Part of Badenoch and Strathspey’s ‘busiest council road’ is crumbling and is in urgent need of being fixed, it is being warned.
Badenoch and Strathspey member Bill Lobban was referring to the north end of Grampian Road - part of the B9152 - from the traffic lights by Dalfaber Drive to NatureScot’s office at Achantoul.
He told the latest area committee meeting in Kingussie: “I suppose from the traffic lights to Achantoul the road is crumbling on the left hand side heading north.
“Motorists are beginning to avoid it and driving beyond the while line as the road is actually falling apart.”
He told road officials: “Someone needs to look at this really seriously and quickly.
“This is probably the busiest council road in Badenoch and Strathspey and it is not going to get any better.”
Steven Grant, the council’s areas roads operations manager, said he hoped that repairs could be carried out within the current financial year which runs to the end of March.
Area committee chairman Councillor Russell Jones also flagged up concerns raised with him about the state of part of West Terrace road in Kingussie.
“I am not sure if it is an urgent job or not - that would be for our engineers to decide,” he said.
Mr Grant said that officers would look into its condition.
