Highland Council agrees road improvements for Badenoch and Strathspey

A RANGE of works to improve local roads in Badenoch and Strathspey has been approved by local Highland councillors.

Members approved the 2020/21 roads maintenance programme for the strath on Tuesday.

Included in the schedule of roadworks are:

Surface dressing works on the B970 Nethy Bridge (Mondhuie, Balliemore) road.

Edge strengthening works are planned for the A939 Bridge of Brown.

Surface dressing on the B9102 (Tulchan Lodge) road.

Overlay works are planned for the C1137 Glentrium road.

Surface dressing on the B9102 (Craigvarren) road.

Reconstruction and surfacing works are also scheduled on the U2375 Finlarig road and a cattle grid replacement has been scheduled for the U2114 Glenbanchor road in Newtonmore.

The B970 (Culreach, Balliefurth) road is also in line for surface dressing.

A Highland Council spokesman said: “The environment, development and infrastructure committee local allocations budget has not yet been determined so the roads maintenance programme is based on the 2019/20 budget.

“Should the budget change then the programme will either be curtailed or increased as appropriate.”

He added: “The indicative programme is based on current engineering and safety priorities and may alter if significant events impact priorities and resources.”

Highland Council is responsible for maintaining 6754 kilometres of local roads.
