Rail passengers in the Highlands have been warned to expect disruption today – after several trains were cancelled and others delayed in response to yellow weather warnings for heavy rain.

ScotRail has said that temporary speed restrictions have been brought in in response to the weather forecast, and that Highland mainline journeys could face delays of up to 30 minutes.

The Kyle Line has also been affected. The 12.08pm Kyle-Inverness service, 1.35pm Inverness-Kyle journey and the 1.46pm Kyle-Inverness trip have all been cancelled, and passengers have been warned that speed restrictions will also cause delays of up to 40 minutes.

The disruption is expected to last until around 9pm.

Passengers are being advised to check to see if their journey is affected before travel. Visit scotrail.co.uk for more details.

Monday's travel woes mean rail passengers have been hit by disruptions for two days running, after some Sunday's services were affected by strike action by the RMT. The strikes are expected to continue on each of the next five Sundays in a continuing dispute about overtime pay.
