RAIL passengers in the Highlands were facing their third day of disruption on Tuesday after sustained rainfall sparked cancellations, delays and the introduction of an emergency timetable.
ScotRail has warned that speed restrictions have been put in place on the Kyle Line, Highland mainline and the West Highland Line in response to the rainfall – which has been impacting on parts of the region.
"With speed restrictions in place today... we've put in place an emergency timetable, with some service cancelled," a ScotRail spokesman said.
Network Rail Scotland added that the speed restrictions had been brought in in response to "sustained heavy rainfall over the past couple of days, and with more forecast today".
Disruption is expected for the remainder of the day. It follows similar speed restrictions, delays and cancellations on Monday due to the weather, and strike-related disruption to some services on Sunday.
Passengers are being advised to check their journey before travelling at www.scotrail.co.uk.
