It's all going to happen tonight (Tuesday, December 31) from one end of the strath to the other.

The early birds will turn out at Nethy Bridge for the big Hogmanay Family Torchlight Procession, creating a river of light, led by a young local piper, through to the centre of the village.

Kick off is at 6pm with hot refreshments available from the Bothy Box, plus entertainment from young musicians. Torches available to buy from 6pm for £5.

The procession leaves Lynstock Crescent at 7pm, and all in aid of the village's incredible village Primary School.

Just down the road at Boat of Garten the Kincraig Ceilidh Band will be playing at the village's celebrated community hall, where there will be stovies from 8pm.

Kingussie will tonight see the torchlight parade of old return to the Badenoch capital.

Torches will be on sale at the Cross, Kingussie from 11.15pm.

The parade leaves the High Street at 11.30pm, to gather at the Market Stance Shinty Clubhouse by 11.55pm where there will be a free dram for everyone and free hot drinks. Stovies will also be served, with donations welcome for those!

The climax will see fireworks for 12 minutes at midnight and all revellers will be invited to Dance at the Stance from until 2.00am, with a licensed bar provided.

At Newtonmore the villagers and their friends (from a growing area of Scotland and beyond) will gather at both the Glen Hotel and the Balavil Hotel in good time for the procession, which sets off, to the stirring tunes of a piper from the local pipe band, at 23.30.

The torchlight_procession will assemble on the Primary School Playing Field for free Walkers Shortbread and wee drams of the excellent Stags Breath Whisky Liqueur.

Immediately after the bells revellers will be treated to another spectacular fireworks display.

All donations go to the Newtonmore Winter Lights Association.

Tomorrow there are plenty of invigorating year-starters planned.

Kincraig will see the annual big dip in Loch Earn. Brave swimmers of all ages gather on the shores on for a bracing new years day swim.

This year sees a warm up on the beach from “Muzza the Motivator” and fancy dress is always encouraged.

Registration at 10.00 am, dip at 11am.

There are a couple of lively events to start off the year with a smile, such as the New Year’s Day Wildcat Trail Walk in Newtonmore and the traditional shinty “challenge” match in Kingussie, which starts at noon on the Market Stance.
