SIX further cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region's cumulative number of cases rose to 1206 when the latest daily update was published.

Across Scotland there were 912 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The number of people in hospital with recently-confirmed coronavirus fell slightly – down 19 to 1226.

And there was also a slight drop in the number of those requiring intensive care – with the figure falling from 111 to 105 overnight.

Sadly, one further person who tested positive for the virus has subsequently died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

NHS Grampian detected 26 further infections to take its cumulative total to 2635.

And there were 31 newly-confirmed cases of coronavirus in NHS Tayside, for a running tally to 4616.

There have now been 74,355 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
