Grantown will celebrate the long-awaited return of its agricultural show in August after two years lost to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Secretary Julie Grant told the Strathy that preparations were well under way for the big event on Thursday, August 11. But it seems that some in the Strathspey capital do not know yet. As the song has it, “If I’d known you were coming I’d have baked a cake!”

Which begs the question: where are all the bakers?

Ms Grant said: “At this stage all the sections of the show are low on entries but oddly enough the domestic tent is especially low with not many entries at all.”

So the call has gone up to get the cookers on and the children painting and building their miniature gardens, at least getting themselves ready to furnish the tent which always attracts a steady flow of visitors.

“There is still plenty of time to send in entries for all our sections,” said the secretary. “Domestic, cattle, sheep and horses.

“The closing date has been extended to Friday, July 15 for entry to our catalogue and we will continue to accept entries right up to July 29.”

All schedules and entry forms can be found on the club’s website grantownshow.com or an email can be popped to grantownshow@btinternet.com.

Ms Grant said: “We’re delighted to be holding the show again and everyone can expect all the usual trade stands, fairground, craft stalls, food stalls and an afternoon full of entertainment.

Judging of all sections will start at 8.30am to 9am on show day.

Afternoon events are set to return from 1.30pm, featuring vintage vehicles and a traditional pageant of decorated vehicles but with a modern theme.

Two guesses...

Yes, this year it’s “What did you do in lockdown?”
