Despite the Covid troubles of most of this past year, Grantown Museum has made some changes and will be opening its doors shortly for a wee burst of artistic festive cheer.

Last winter the museum shop and visitor information centre was refurbished, freshly painted and fitted out with upcycled antiques that were donated to the attraction for that purpose.

Museum manager Dan Cottam said: “The shop and reception look absolutely amazing and was a lot of hard work to get done in our usual fashion of no budget and volunteer labour so it's been a great shame we haven't been able to show it off properly this year.

"We held our first arts and crafts fair last Christmas, and it was a resounding success, so we decided to open for it again this year and give people a chance to see it and get some Christmas shopping done.

With some funding from Museums Galleries Scotland, we have been able to adapt the building and put in measures to make it safe for our volunteers and the public."

Mr Cottam continued: "We hope everyone will pop in and see what we have on offer – there are some terrific artists on display.

"Some returning people from last year, and lots of new artists too. We’ve tried to showcase a range of gifts from the inexpensive to the more extravagant – we are cognisant that folks may have less to spend on Christmas this year so have taken this into account when selecting products."

The wide range of gifts on offer include Christmas cards, decorations, calendars, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, bags, prints, paintings, drawings, photography, teas, skincare, homewares and children’s clothes... and all served up with mince pies and hot chocolate too.

The fair is part of 'Grantown Does Christmas', a town wide shopping weekend on December 5th and 6th.

The art and craft fair is open from November 30 to December 6, at the museum 10am – 5pm.
